Unity

Strong team identification leads to higher team performance. Working collectively is becoming an important asepct of organisational performance, as teams are now considered fundamental to organisatinal success.

However, just forming a team does not always guarantee that the team will perform collectively together to achieve and accomplish tasks. One of the ways to encourage team co-operation is to forge strong team identities. Research shows that team members who strongly identify with one another are more likely to out perform individual-oriented teams. Solansky 2011 was able to demonstrate that strong team identification led to higher performance outcomes. Other research demonstrated that team identification was also related to lower levels of conflict and relationship conflict. Basically, people who strongly relate and identity with their team, put in more effort, trust more and put away personal interests in favour of team goals.
